Civil/Structural Engineer position at Beta Design Consultants, a consulting engineering firm in West London established in 2009. We provide bespoke engineering solutions to clients in the construction industry and are members of the UK Association for Consultancy and Engineering with ISO9001/ISO14001 UKAS accreditation and Gold Membership in Construction Line. Role: Civil/Structural Engineer
Location: South West London, Kingston
We are seeking an ambitious team player with at least five years of experience, ideally with a Master's degree. The role suits a highly technical engineer confident in concept design and pushing the boundaries of design.
Responsibilities:
- Design steel and concrete structures and optimize connections for fabrication and assembly.
- Consider details in connections, rebar detailing in RC structures, and design on complex structures (large span, towers, rehabilitation).
- Retrofit and strengthening design; seismic design (EC8, ASCE or IBC); bridge and building inspections with repair proposals; structural investigation and NDT testing.
- Familiarity with SCIA/Idea Statica; temporary works design.
- Design and value engineering of structures for logistics, data centres, industrial facilities and energy projects (including dynamic and seismic analysis).
- Structural investigations and assessments including intrusive and NDT testing of foundations, buildings and bridges.
- Slope stability, retaining walls, soil-structure interaction, and foundation design.
- Design of RC framed buildings to Eurocode; repair design for flexural/shear strengthening, column/frame strengthening.
- Design and detailing of steel structures; modification and strengthening of steel structures; bespoke foundation solutions (rafts, piled rafts, embedded piles, basements); temporary works for deep excavations.
- On projects involving concrete and steel, site investigations, evaluation of design proposals and autonomous work after initial supervision.
- Communication with contractors, clients and architects; representation at design team and meetings; involvement in business development as appropriate.
Required Attributes:
- Degree in structural or civil engineering. UK MEng/MSc preferred. European degrees may require minimum four years.
- Minimum five years design experience with exposure to British/European/American codes.
- Strong organisational, interpersonal, writing and presentation skills; analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Good knowledge of building codes, regulations and standards for structural engineering.
Company Profile:
Track record of completing residential, commercial and industrial projects; bespoke steel solutions and RC repair/refurbishment. Experience in steel connections design and steel detailing services; ISO certifications (9001, 14001). Current design team supports growth and provides flexibility and recognition opportunities.
