The Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join the Energy team. You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of projects delivering upgrades and modifications to Transmission substation protection and control systems for National Grid and other customers within the Power Transmission industry. This role will suit a Project Manager with experience in engineering or regulated environments, ideally within power transmission or a similar sector. Occasional travel to customer sites will be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage multiple projects valued between £50k and £600k, from initiation through to successful delivery
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, to specification, within budget, and to high levels of customer satisfaction
- Take full financial responsibility for assigned projects
- Lead, motivate, and manage teams of hardware, software, and installation engineers
- Manage and coordinate subcontractors
- Ensure compliance with Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety standards, working closely with internal Q,E,H&S specialists
- Hold regular progress and review meetings with clients
- Support future business growth through excellent project delivery and strong customer relationships
Essential Requirements
- Proven project management experience within an engineering or regulated industry (power transmission/energy preferred)
- Strong experience planning and scheduling using Microsoft Project
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Commercially astute, with the ability to identify and mitigate technical and commercial risks
- Demonstrable track record of delivering projects to timescale, margin, quality, and customer satisfaction targets
- Experience managing subcontractors
- Strong leadership and people-management skills
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel, including occasional overnight stays
Desirable Requirements
- Experience working under NEC3 / NEC4 contracts
- APM Practitioner Qualification or equivalent (or working towards)
- Experience with project proposals and bid support
