ABOUT THE CLIENT
Our client operates within a complex, global industrial environment, delivering large-scale programmes focused on efficiency, sustainability, and operational excellence. Their engineering teams work across multiple sites, deploying standardised, compliant solutions to support energy and utilities monitoring. Due to ongoing programme demand, they are seeking an experienced Metering Solutions Engineer to lead design and deployment activities.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
- Circa £50 per hour via Umbrella
- Initial 6-month contract with long-term scope through Summer 2027
- Remote where possible but site surveys required
- Eligibility for BPSS clearance
- Technical Engineer role leading industrial utilities metering solutions
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducting on-site infrastructure assessments for utilities metering installations
- Reviewing P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and electrical schematics
- Defining metering strategies, technologies, and installation approaches
- Designing connectivity architecture integrating PLCs, gateways, SCADA, and PME platforms
- Working with site engineering, OT/IT, OEMs, and installation partners
- Producing and maintaining structured technical documentation and design records
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Proven experience with industrial utilities metering (electricity, gas, steam, water, wastewater)
- Experience with floor walks, technical metering assessments (hands on) and offering solutions for metering skills
- Ability to lead site-level technical coordination for metering deployments
- Strong understanding of flow measurement principles and metering technologies
- Experience with industrial communication protocols (Modbus TCP/RTU, Ethernet/IP, RS-485)
- Familiarity designing and validating connectivity architecture with PLCs, gateways, SCADA systems, and PME integration
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and produce structured documentation
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience overseeing configuration, commissioning, and interface validation
- Ensures cybersecurity compliance with the support of the Cyber SME in the central team
