Java Back-End Developer (Azure / AWS) – Contract | London (Hybrid)
Contract: 12+ months
IR35: Outside IR35
Location: London (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
We are supporting a consultancy delivering enterprise-scale technology programmes for a major client. They are seeking an experienced Java Back-End Developer with strong cloud (Azure/AWS) expertise to join a long-term engagement working on modern, microservices-based systems. This role suits a senior engineer who enjoys hands-on development, cloud-native architectures, and working within agile, high-performing teams.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with fellow developers and technical stakeholders
- Design and implement microservices using the Spring Boot framework
- Work across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Integrate microservices with databases and external systems
- Work with streaming technologies such as Kafka
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure and/or AWS
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects
- Write and maintain automated test cases to ensure design and quality standards are met
- Produce clear and well-structured technical documentation for microservices
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong development experience with Java (SDK 8 or later)
- Proven experience building microservices using Spring Boot
- Hands-on experience with Azure or AWS, including service integration and development
- Experience working with relational databases (Oracle or similar)
- Understanding of Agile methodologies and the full SDLC
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proactive, delivery-focused mindset with a positive attitude
Desirable (Nice to Have)
- Front-end development experience with React
- Familiarity with financial markets, instruments, or trade lifecycle
- Ability to write and optimise SQL
- Experience with event-driven or streaming architectures
Qualifications & Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
- 10+ years of overall IT industry experience
- Proven experience working in Agile delivery environments
- Strong track record of collaborating effectively within high-performing teams
