Category Development Analyst – Travel Retail – York / Hybrid

Responsibilities

  • Build, analyse, and interpret category performance reports across multiple categories and markets, identifying trends, gaps, and opportunities for growth.
  • Use Shelftrak’s proprietary data, client sales data, and market intelligence to create evidence-based recommendations that improve category performance and shopper experience.
  • Translate insight into shopper-led selling stories and strategic action plans for brand and retailer partners.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to align category insights with joint business plans.
  • Present findings to client stakeholders – from category managers to senior commercial leaders – in clear, compelling formats.
  • Track category KPIs, ensuring execution is measured against agreed objectives and that insights feed into future planning cycles.
  • Develop a deep understanding of travel retail’s unique challenges – including assortment optimisation, planogram compliance, sales performance, and passenger / shopper behaviour across different regions.

What we’re looking for

  • We’re looking for someone who loves working with data and wants to see their analysis influence high-value commercial decisions.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in category management, insights, or retail analytics.
  • Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data visualisation) and confidence working with large datasets.
  • Experience in preparing client-ready presentations that tell a clear, commercially relevant story.
  • Knowledge of FMCG retail (travel retail experience a bonus).
  • Understanding of category management principles (space allocation, range optimisation, pricing, promotions, planogram compliance).
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to see data in the context of shopper needs and retailer priorities.
  • Confidence to work in a fast-paced environment, balancing detail accuracy with timely delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to client audiences.
