High Performance Materials Engineer – Permanent, Bristol – Hybrid
Salary: £38,000 – £60,000
Responsibilities
- Develop and provide materials design guidance from first principles, focusing on composite materials / reinforced plastics.
- Support adhesive bonding, mechanical fastening, and aerospace primary and secondary structure applications.
- Assist with material selection and certification activities.
- Define, plan, and execute test campaigns in support of the above.
- Create and maintain material compatibility and surface protection practices and manuals.
- Develop Material and Process Specifications to ensure materials meet required performance, quality, and compliance standards for production.
- Manage and generate documentation for the Technical Qualification of materials.
- Generate Manufacturing Engineering process instructions (assembly principles, sealant and anti-corrosion, process validation).
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent experience in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related field with specialization in composites.
Experience
- Experience in aerospace engineering with a focus on composite materials is desirable.
- Experience in managing and generating documentation for material qualification and certification procedures.
- Experience in developing and implementing manufacturing process specifications and material specifications.
- High competence in at least one of the above technical areas, with demonstrable ability across the remaining areas desirable.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of materials science, including composite materials, material compatibility, surface protection practices, and material qualification processes.
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage Jira boards and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with the core team and external stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and the ability to generate precise and comprehensive documentation.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing project needs and priorities.
