THE EMPLOYER IS: MARK YOUNG PAINTING LIMITEDThe successful applicant is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and other structures to enhance their appearance and protect them from damage. The role involves working with a variety of materials, tools, and techniques to achieve high-quality finishes according to specifications and design requirements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling holes, and removing old paint or wallpaper.
- Apply paints, varnishes, wallpapers, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
- Mix and match paint colours to achieve desired shades.
- Protect furniture, flooring, and fixtures using drop cloths, masking tape, and protective coverings.
- Measure surface areas and estimate quantities of materials needed for each job.
- Follow health and safety procedures when handling paints, solvents, and ladders/scaffolding.
- Repair and maintain painted or decorated surfaces as required.
- Collaborate with clients, designers, or supervisors to ensure desired results.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and safe condition.
- Work independently or as part of a team to meet deadlines and quality standards.
Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge of various painting techniques, materials, and surface preparation methods.
- Good eye for colour, detail, and finish quality.
- Ability to work at heights and follow safety guidelines.
- Physical stamina and manual dexterity.
- Good communication and time-management skills.
- Basic math skills for measuring and estimating materials.
- NVQ or City & Guilds certification in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent).
- Experience using spray painting equipment.
- Knowledge of modern decorative techniques (e.g., stencilling, marbling, or textured finishes).
- Valid driver’s licence.
