The Junior IT Technician role focuses on building strong, practical skills in IT systems, troubleshooting, and client support within a professional Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment. This position provides hands-on experience working with industry-standard tools, remote management platforms, and core technologies used to support business IT operations. As part of the technical team, you will assist in resolving day-to-day technical issues, support device and user setups, and learn how to manage common service requests.
Alongside developing technical ability, the role places significant emphasis on delivering excellent customer service. You will learn how to communicate effectively with clients, understand their needs, and provide clear, helpful guidance as issues are resolved. With ongoing training and mentorship from senior engineers, you will steadily progress your knowledge across networking, Microsoft 365, security fundamentals, and MSP best practices, creating a strong foundation for a long-term career in IT support.
These are an in-person role, requiring the person to be based full time in our office in Magherafelt.
Responsibilities
- Provide both on-site and remote assistance for basic IT support tasks, including password resets, software installations, and initial troubleshooting.
- Learn to configure, prepare, and deploy devices - such as laptops, desktops, and peripherals - while working under the guidance of senior technicians.
- Assist with routine system maintenance activities, including performing system checks, applying updates, and supporting patching schedules to ensure systems remain secure and up to date.
- Support the day-to-day administration of Microsoft 365 services, including Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive, helping users with access, configuration, and general usage queries.
- Document client environments, network information, configurations, and support activities, ensuring all service records are accurate and up to date.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development to build technical capability and progress toward more advanced responsibilities within the IT team.
Skills and Qualifications
- Basic understanding of IT systems, including operating systems, user accounts, and common software applications.
- Ability to provide clear support to users both on-site and remotely.
- Competence in carrying out basic IT tasks such as password resets, software installations, and simple troubleshooting.
