As a Nursery Assistant, you will be assisting the management to ensure the smooth running of Little Rays, which caters for children from 2 months to 12 years of age. You will assist with all aspects of personal care including feeding, assisting with toilet training, changing and comforting children when required. The role will also involve helping to plan and implement activities, liaising with parents and colleagues, and ensuring the safety of the children.
Responsibilities
- To provide a stimulating and varied programme for the children, ensuring that the well-being and safety of the children is paramount at all times.
- To integrate and work as a team with the other staff members, to maintain a harmonious atmosphere.
- To ensure the planned activities for the children are carried out and meet the needs of those children.
- Ensure all children and parents are greeted warmly on arrival, and all parents are kept well informed of their child's daily activities and development.
- All staff must have up to date Child Protection training at all times, updated every 3 years.
- Plan and implement a varied and appropriate play schedule for the children.
- Ensure that all play equipment is stored in a logical manner and in a way that promotes the child's independence when choosing play materials.
- Ensure the safety of the children at all times, with the necessary knowledge to detect hazards in the environment and take appropriate action.
- Assist children at mealtimes if necessary, ensuring they are sociable and enjoyable occasions for everyone.
- Ensure that the rooms are kept hygienically clean, with all play equipment washed regularly and the room kept tidy.
- Plan, prepare and take part in all special events, outings and visits.
- Listen to and encourage the children.
- Be prepared to drive nursery vehicles to transport children.
- Advise the management of any matter requiring attention such as concerns about a child or faulty equipment.
- Be willing to obtain and maintain an appropriate First Aid certificate if required.
- Ensure all confidential information regarding the children, their families, fellow team members or Little Rays, is kept confidential.
- Keep daily records and developmental records of the children.
- Be prepared to work with any age group within the setting.
- Be prepared to alter hours of work to accommodate the children and remain after hours if necessary.
- Attend room and team meetings and additional training if requested.
- Be aware of any special requests or requirements for any children within your care.
Skills and Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 in Childcare & Education (or a willingness to work toward it).
- Skills in English, Maths, and ICT.
- Previous experience in childcare is desirable.

Job Start Opportunity - Working Hours Information:
- Standard Hours: up to 25 hours per week.
- Flexible/Reduced Hours: May be available upon approval by a Work Coach.
- Additional Hours: The employer may offer extra hours depending on availability.
