This is an entry-level barbering position created through the JobStart Scheme. The Junior Barber will support the daily running of a busy barbershop while learning the core skills needed for a career in men’s grooming. The role includes assisting senior barbers, maintaining shop hygiene, greeting clients, and developing cutting and styling techniques through supervised practice. Full training and mentoring will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Assist senior barbers with preparing tools, equipment, and workstations.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the shop.
- Greet and communicate professionally with clients.
- Observe and practice basic cutting, blending, and styling under supervision.
- Help with product organisation, towel washing, and stock rotation.
- Support general barbershop duties as directed by senior staff.
Skills and Qualifications
- Good communication and people skills.
- Willing to learn.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
- Interest in men’s hair and grooming.
- Basic understanding of hygiene and cleanliness.
- English - Fluent (spoken and written) for health and safety purposes.
- Some experience or training in hairdressing or barbering (e.g., Level 1 or 2 qualification).
- Confidence when speaking with customers.
- Team-working ability in a busy environment.
- Interest in creative or hands-on work.

JobStart Opportunity - Working Hours Information:
- Standard Hours: up to 25 hours per week.
- Flexible/Reduced Hours: May be available upon approval by a Work Coach.
- Additional Hours: The employer may offer extra hours depending on availability. This should be discussed directly with the employer before starting employment.
