Hot Food/Deli Assistant is responsible for preparing, presenting, and serving hot food and deli items while maintaining high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and customer service. They should ensure customers receive fresh, well-prepared products and an excellent in-store experience.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook hot foods, deli items, and ready-to-eat meals following recipes and portion guidelines, operate kitchen equipment safely and monitor cooking times/temperatures for quality and safety.
- Apply HACCP principles, maintain strict hygiene, prevent cross-contamination, and conduct temperature checks and ensure safe storage, rotation, and labelling of food items.
- Greet customers, take orders, provide product/allergen info, and handle complaints professionally, upsell specials and maintain a friendly, customer-focused approach.
- Set up and maintain attractive food displays, portion and label items, and rotate stock to reduce waste.
- Use and clean deli slicers, knives, and food processors safely; report faults promptly.
- Process payments accurately and maintain order accuracy during busy periods.
- Receive/store deliveries, rotate stock, record waste, and report shortages.
- Prioritise tasks during peak times, maintain cleanliness, and follow production plans.
- Collaborate with colleagues, assist during busy periods, and follow supervisor instructions.
- Professionalism, reliability, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Other duties as and when required.
Skills and Qualifications
- Maths and English or working towards these qualifications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Basic Food Hygiene certificate (training will be provided).
Further Information
- Standard Hours: up to 25 hours per week.
- Flexible/Reduced Hours: May be available upon approval by a Work Coach.
- Additional Hours: The employer may offer extra hours depending on availability. This should be discussed directly with the employer before starting employment.
