The BASE is a community project for adults with learning disabilities. It gives people the chance to build friendships, grow in confidence, and take part in everyday activities in their local area. Members choose what they want to do each month — things like shopping, bowling, arts and crafts, cinema trips, sports, and local clubs. Staff and volunteers support them to get involved and enjoy their time together.

As a Base Assistant, you’ll help adults with learning disabilities take part in their daily activities. Some days you’ll be in the BASE building, and other days you’ll be out in the community. You’ll work alongside the Base Co-ordinator and volunteers to create a friendly, safe, and welcoming space.

Responsibilities:
  • Support people during their daily activities.
  • Accompany individuals or small groups on outings.
  • Encourage people to join in, make friends, and build confidence.
  • Help with the general running of the BASE.
  • Keep the space safe and tidy.
  • Report any accidents or concerns to the Base Co-ordinator.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Work positively with volunteers and other staff.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • An interest in working with adults with learning disabilities.
  • Willing to learn and take part in training.
  • Flexible and able to meet the needs of the project.
  • Willing to complete vetting checks.
  • Committed to completing the 6-month JobStart placement.
  • Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities (paid, voluntary, or caring for a family member).
  • An understanding of learning disability support.

JobStart Opportunity - Working Hours Information: Standard Hours: up to 25 hours per week. Flexible/Reduced Hours: May be available upon approval by a Work Coach. Additional Hours: The employer may offer extra hours depending on availability. This should be discussed directly with the employer before starting employment.
