We are offering an exciting opportunity for someone with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills to join a team of ecologists and provide support and resource to our Northern Regional Team based at our York office within the Castle Howard estate. The role is diverse and covers largely office administrative tasks including the scheduling of ecology surveys to be undertaken by one of our busy ecology teams across North Yorkshire and further afield throughout the UK. This will require strong logistical skills, some geographical knowledge and the ability to problem solve, often at short notice.
Our ecologists undertake a variety of protected species surveys including breeding and wintering birds, bat activity surveys, roost emergence surveys, internal/external inspections of buildings, and surveys for dormice, reptiles, great crested newt, water vole and badgers to name a few. Each survey type has seasonal, weather, personnel, site access, and geographic restrictions that determine who can undertake the survey and when. The schedule is fundamental for the smooth running of the team and their workload, which can be challenging during the peak survey season and during changeable weather conditions.
The successful candidate will also have responsibility for assisting with:
- arranging site access for surveying team
- liaising with sub-contractors undertaking surveys for the team
- health and safety procedures
- fee proposal documentation
- maintenance and monitoring of survey equipment
- data upload and analysis

Salary and Working Hours
FPCR offer flexible working, and this role can be either full or part time (28-35 hour working week), taking into consideration the abilities of the candidate to fulfil the various aspects of the role. Salary will be £25,000 FTE per annum. Due to the interface required with surveyors on a daily basis, and the organisation of equipment required there is no homeworking option available for this role. Please note that our office is not accessible by public transport; please consider this before applying.
