A full-time (1.0 FTE) Science teacher at Faribault Middle School. The position will teach middle school science and Forensics exploratory science courses. The ideal candidate will create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students are challenged and empowered to learn and grow. This position will commence with the 2026-2027 school year.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching essential employment skills, including professional communication and collaboration.
- Managing instructional supplies and curriculum implementation.
- Translating lesson plans into learning experiences in a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies; maximising time on task.
- Creating a classroom environment that responds to the needs of individual learners.
- Planning and implementing a program of study designed to meet individual students’ needs.
- Recognising learning problems and making referrals as appropriate.
- Encouraging student enthusiasm for the learning process and the development of good study habits.
- Adhering to health and safety policies, including using precautions of safety and health plans.
- Communicating with parents in a timely manner; maintaining positive and constructive communication with students, staff, parents, and community.
- Developing reasonable rules of classroom behaviour and appropriate techniques.
- Sharing responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school.
- Protecting students, equipment, materials, and facilities by taking necessary and reasonable precautions.
- Maintaining appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time.
- Working cooperatively with parents and other staff members to reinforce the educational program for each child.
- Attending workshops, seminars, and conferences as well as staff, department, curricular development, and committee meetings and staff-development sessions as required.
- Encouraging and facilitating the work of other staff members in a collaborative, supportive environment.
- Evaluating the accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods; providing progress and interim reports for feedback.
- Respecting the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics and state and federal laws.
- Keeping current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory, and is willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of the school’s curriculum.
- Supporting and following School Board policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of AVID strategies is a plus.
- Must be able to build strong, positive relationships with families and students.
- Must be able to recognise Minnesota Science Standards and how to build standards-based lessons.
- Should be comfortable using 1:1 technology and maintaining a positive, professional culture in accordance with School Board policies.
