The Character Initiatives Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator is a grant-funded position responsible for developing a comprehensive outreach, recruitment, and communication strategy for the Ed.S. program and character-based professional development opportunities. Reporting to the program director of character and virtue education in the school of education, this position will work closely with the Ed.S. program leadership, the office of marketing and communication, graduate admissions and field specialists, and faculty and staff in the school of education.

The coordinator will increase awareness and knowledge about Saint Mary’s Ed.S. program and character-based professional development opportunities through site visits, events, correspondence, and other marketing such as digital and print media. Establishing new partnerships with educational leaders and school districts while also cultivating and managing existing relationships is essential. The coordinator will work with field specialists to grow enrollment in the Ed.S. program and should have demonstrated success with persuasion and negotiation skills in writing, public speaking, and public relations.

In 2019, Saint Mary’s received a $1.7 million grant from the Kern Family Foundation to develop an enhanced curriculum in the Ed.S. program that emphasizes the moral character of educational leaders. The University of Birmingham’s (UK) Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtue framework is a model for this work. Other components of the initiative include establishing a summer institute on character and virtue in leadership, character-based professional development, and supporting partner schools.

At Saint Mary’s, educational leadership is not only what the leader knows but also who they are. Our practitioner-based curriculum is designed to equip students with sound theory, practical skills, and personal formation to become an educational leader of both competence and character. Designed for busy adult learners, the program consisting of 29 credits is taught online.

  • Administrative support with character and virtue initiatives within the school of education (20%)

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
  • At least two years of experience with outreach, recruitment, or communication strategy
