Mechanical Design/Hardware Engineer – Defence Project

Location: Hybrid (3 days in-office: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
Contract: Inside IR35 (Non-negotiable)
Duration: Until 31st August 2025 (potential extension)
Rate: £50 per hour PAYE (excluding holiday, NI, and pension) | Umbrella charge rate: £70.00
Hours: 37-hour work week (7.4 hours per day)
An opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design/Hardware Engineer to support a defence sector project. This role requires expertise in mechanical design within the defence and electronics industries. Candidates with existing SC clearance are highly desirable, though individuals with BPSS clearance may be considered (UK nationals, British-born only, due to project requirements).

Key Requirements:

Qualification in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Siemens NX or SolidWorks)
Strong understanding of engineering principles and best practices
Experience in designing:
Sheet metal components
Machined parts
Assemblies
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong communication skills (verbal & written)
Experience with cable routing and management

Desirable Skills:

Basic understanding of electronics
FEA & CFD simulation experience
Designing for EMC compliance
Experience in military-grade design

Responsibilities:

Design & development of packaging and mounting arrangements for COTS items
Creation of electro-mechanical assemblies
Generating part & GA drawings
Peer reviews & design for manufacture assessments
Cable routing in 3D CAD & harness assembly design
