Romford, Essex
Full-Time | Term Time Only

Are you a patient, compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a strong background supporting children with PMLD and complex needs?

We are recruiting for a PMLD Teaching Assistant to join specialist SEN schools across Romford and Waltham Forest, supporting pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, autism, severe learning difficulties and complex additional needs.

These schools provide specialist education for pupils with a range of learning, communication, sensory, physical and medical needs, offering a supportive and nurturing environment where every child is encouraged to achieve their full potential.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about specialist education and understands the importance of delivering high-quality, personalised and sensory-based support.

The Role

As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with PMLD and complex needs.
  • Support communication, sensory development, cognition and independence.
  • Deliver sensory, play-based and personalised learning activities.
  • Support pupils with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and complex health needs.
  • Assist with personal care, feeding and mobility where required.
  • Follow EHCPs, learning plans, care plans and health protocols.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and other specialist professionals.
  • Monitor pupil engagement, development and progress.
  • Help create a calm, safe and nurturing learning environment.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong experience supporting children with PMLD or complex SEN.
  • Experience within a specialist school, SEN provision, care, healthcare or residential setting.
  • Understanding of sensory needs, communication difficulties and personalised learning.
  • Confidence supporting pupils with physical, medical or personal care needs.
  • A calm, patient and compassionate approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to follow detailed care and support plans.
  • Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.

Experience with Makaton, PECS, AAC, sensory integration, moving and handling, feeding or complex medical needs would be highly beneficial.

You do not necessarily need a teaching qualification. If you have strong hands-on experience supporting children or young people with PMLD, SLD, ASD or complex needs, we would love to hear from you.

Why This Role?

  • Full-time, term-time only.
  • ASAP start.
  • Opportunities across specialist SEN schools in Romford and Waltham Forest.
  • Supportive and experienced multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ongoing training and professional development.
  • Work alongside teachers, therapists and SEN specialists.
  • Gain valuable experience supporting pupils with profound and complex needs.
  • A genuinely rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day.

This role is subject to satisfactory safeguarding checks, including an Enhanced DBS disclosure.
