Job Description
Teaching Partner β Full-Time
Not every Teaching Assistant role looks the same. Some days are all about learning, laughter and those little moments where a pupil suddenly achieves something they have been working towards. Other days require patience, resilience and the ability to stay calm when things don't go quite to plan.
We're looking for a Teaching Partner to join a specialist education setting in Gloucester on a full-time basis.
This is a role for someone who understands that behaviour is often communication.
Some pupils may experience frustration when they are unable to communicate their needs, which can lead to dysregulation. At times, this may present through behaviours such as hitting out, spitting or swearing. These behaviours are not present across every class or pupil, but as part of a specialist setting, you need to be comfortable working alongside pupils who may display these behaviours.
You'll be joining a team of highly skilled and experienced staff who understand the pupils they work with and will provide the training, guidance and support you need. What we're looking for is someone who can bring patience, consistency and resilience to the role.
What will you be doing?
- Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs throughout their school day
- Building positive, trusting relationships and helping pupils feel safe and understood
- Supporting learning, communication, social development and independence
- Helping pupils regulate and re-engage when they become overwhelmed
- Working closely with teachers and experienced specialist staff
- Using agreed strategies to support behaviour and individual communication needs
- Celebrating progress β including the small steps that can make a huge difference
- Contributing to a calm, structured and inclusive classroom environment
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children or young people, ideally within education, care, SEND or a similar setting
- Is patient, emotionally resilient and able to remain calm under pressure
- Understands that behaviour is often a form of communication
- Can build relationships based on trust, consistency and respect
- Is willing to learn and take direction from experienced specialist staff
- Isn't easily phased when a challenging moment occurs
- Genuinely wants to make a difference to the lives of young people
You don't need to know everything on day one. What matters is having the right attitude, resilience and willingness to learn.
Importantly, this isn't a setting where challenging behaviour defines the school day. The pupils are described as being settled and engaged for the majority of the time, with staff seeing some fantastic learning, progress and genuinely rewarding moments.
A genuinely rewarding role where your consistency and support can make a lasting difference.
