Permanent Contract 37 hours. 07:00 – 15:00 Monday-Thursday and 14:30 on Friday. Grade 5 Salary £31,537 - £34,434.

Uttlesford District Council is looking for a Chargehand to join our Environmental Services team based at Little Canfield Business Park. This is a hands-on role supporting the delivery of street cleansing and related services while helping to keep our local communities clean, safe and well cared for.

The successful candidate will need to have a good knowledge of street cleaning and waste clearance tasks, along with knowledge of the appropriate legislation including any health and safety aspects. The role will include:

  • Issuing work instructions and deploying staff on tasks at the start of the day
  • Transporting staff to site if required
  • Dealing with customer requests
  • Training staff
  • Conducting inspections on their activities throughout the working day and recording as appropriate

It is essential that you are self-motivated, flexible and able to take responsibility for the team in the absence of the supervisor. The role will require the ability to use computer software including Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook; however, full training will be offered to the successful candidate where needed. Candidates must have a full valid driving licence.
