The main duty of the post holder is to provide a portering service to the Emergency Department, support patient transfers to the wards and to carry out routine ADHOC duties - supporting with department deliveries.
Responsibilities:- Liaising with the nurse in charge of the emergency department and operational teams.
- Provide a portering service to all wards and departments.
- Escort and convey patients by wheelchair, bed or trolley.
- Transfer various specimens or bloods to the pathology department and other wards and departments.
- Collect prescriptions and drug books from wards and departments and deliver them to the Pharmacy department.
- Distribute and change medical gas cylinders as requested.
- Assist at cardiac arrests.
- Transport records, X-rays, furniture, equipment and materials.
- Report any suspicious incidents and assist where necessary.
- Assist with low level security requests when required.
- Attend mandatory training courses.
- Ensure that when a deceased patient is transported from the ward they are treated with due dignity and respect.
- Operate a communication device to keep in touch with other staff in the department.
- Attendance at all sessions is mandatory, these include moving & handling, resuscitation, infection control, clinical governance, fire training and Dealing with Conflict training.
- Training in safe handling of medical gases and liquid nitrogen.
- Holder of a Clean UK Driving Licence.
