An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of a Breast Care Nurse in this dynamic and challenging specialty. You will play a key role in the delivery of the Breast Care Service, supporting Breast Cancer patients throughout their cancer journey.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a specialist and advanced nursing contribution to the clinical management of patients with breast cancer across all boundaries.
  • Develop and implement a specialist Nurse led service for patients with a Family History of Breast Cancer and Breast Pain.
  • Supervise and lead the team in patient-centered follow-up management.
  • Ensure coordination and management of patients undergoing treatment at Walsall Manor Hospital.
  • Provide information and signpost patients to appropriate healthcare providers.
  • Offer telephone advice and triage where appropriate, documenting and communicating outcomes as per service specification.
  • Provide level 2 psychological support within knowledge boundaries following appropriate training.
  • Perform Holistic Needs Assessments using designated screening tools.
  • Collate patient surveys and develop action plans based on patient experiences.
  • Develop and facilitate Health and Well Being Programmes/Beyond Cancer.
  • Document all interactions accurately in line with Trust policy and procedure.
  • Manage existing follow-up clinics and create new clinics within the self-supported management structure and the Macmillan vision.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

Professional Development:

  • Upon successful completion of training requirements and a competency framework, a Band 7 senior clinical nurse specialist post will be offered.
  • Be part of the multi-professional breast cancer tumour group within the Trust, developing standards of care for patients diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Maintain and develop the Breast Care Nursing service at Walsall Healthcare Trust, establishing good working relationships with clinicians and other key staff.
