The predicted salary is between 21900 - 21900 £ per year.
Airbus Engineering Structures Wing covers the main aircraft programmes, A220, Single Aisle, Long Range, A350, A380 and A400m, as well as preparing for the future with research and development into new aircraft configurations and technologies to enable more efficient and environmentally sustainable aircraft.
What you will be doing:
During your internship, you will spend your time within two teams covering both Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Wing Digitalization. Both of these teams cover the full range of commercial Airbus products, giving the successful candidate a wide variety of experiences across multiple projects that will be at different stages of the project lifecycle.
Finite Element Modelling (GEM) and Digital Analysis: As part of the wing FEA team, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering key analysis results for the various aircraft programs. The successful candidate will own all deliverables that they work on from the initial task definition until final delivery, taking advantage of the various Pre/post-processing tool sets such as Altair Hyperworks, as well as an opportunity to develop coding skills as part of the automation activities. This is a great opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the field and also a very good opportunity to network across Analysis, Program, Chief Engineering and Airworthiness.
Digital Wing Engineering: As a student engineer, you will develop the digital solutions needed across a wide range of more traditional disciplines within the wing business. During this placement, the activities you may undertake will include:
- Develop your learning journey towards Configuration management and Digital Mock up and processes;
- Applying Python, Java, GScript, C++ based Automation in order to improve design and stress processes;
- Influence Digital Transformation within the wing and airframe organisations;
- Perform Data Analytics on Skywise, Google Studio and internal platforms developed by Airbus;
- Developing machine learning algorithms on various platforms;
- Use of VR/AR techniques;
- Support the move from Server Based Microsoft Applications to Cloud Based Google Applications.
Minimum Requirements:
- Studying towards a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, or equivalent;
- Positive and proactive attitude towards work;
- Good problem-solving skills and a can-do attitude;
- Not afraid to propose new ideas to solve problems;
- Programming and optimisation skills would be beneficial;
- Languages and experience of a wide range of cultures is beneficial;
- You are someone who collaborates well within a team.

The Airbus Engineering Structures Placement Scheme is well established and widely recognized as preparing the engineers of the future, equipping them with the wide variety of skills and experience needed to maintain Airbus as one of the leading commercial aerospace companies in the world. The scheme lasts for 12 months and during the scheme, you will build on core skills, develop project management and communication skills, and work in a transnational environment. There are opportunities to work on STEM projects aimed at inspiring the engineers of the future.
The Airbus Engineering Structures Wing organisation is transnational, with sites in the UK, France and Germany. Within the UK, there is a community of over 400 engineers working in Filton and Broughton, collaborating on the design and manufacture of the wings for all Airbus commercial aircraft. This position is primarily based in Filton.
