Role Overview
The Total Returns team is responsible for the $14bn ‘TargetRisk’ fund and related strategies. The strategies leverage 40 years of AHL experience in systematic futures trading and risk management to provide best-in-class total return portfolios. We are seeking a quantitative researcher to work on our existing products as well as assist in the development of future strategies.
Specific Responsibilities
- Research, develop, and implement investment and portfolio construction concepts to improve the outcomes of our portfolios.
- Contribute to the design and development of new total return strategies.
- Assist in managing the team’s strategies in collaboration with Trading, Operations, and Technology.
- Be an expert in our systems, understanding the process for translating investment concepts to trades.
- Follow markets and their impact on the trading models (performance reviews): propose appropriate model diagnostics: feedback observations into research.
- Follow industry/academic literature and suggest how the strategies can profit from these ideas.
Technical competencies
- 2+ years of experience in a quantitative research role (essential).
- Strong academic record and a degree with high mathematical, statistical, and computing content e.g., Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics or Physics.
- Knowledge/understanding of the structure and drivers of returns in financial markets.
- A demonstrable interest in algorithmic trading, financial derivatives and markets in general.
- Ability to create systematic investment strategies, executing a full research pipeline from idea generation, data acquisition, hypothesis testing, signal construction, robustness checking, and portfolio construction using Python.
- Awareness of what statistical and mathematical tools and techniques are available and able to independently decide what is appropriate to use in which circumstances.
- Exceptional attention to detail, logical reasoning, and self-motivation required.
- Ability to write clear, concise, and informative technical reports and proposals.
