Reporting to the Group Head of Markets Operations, the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Operations will be responsible for overseeing and reporting on the execution of the operations strategy for Markets. This will include driving and coordinating the location strategy for Operations, creating and reporting on key metrics to evaluate the performance of Markets Operations, creating robust governance processes, leading on preparation of materials for internal and external meetings, as well as leading on financial reporting and resource management for the Markets Operations function. The incumbent will have demonstrated organisation and stakeholder management leadership with a deep understanding of operations management, creating and reporting of performance against metrics, budgeting and financial management and strategic planning. This role will be instrumental in supporting a product-led approach for the division and improving how we work so that we can more nimbly adapt to tomorrow's customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Location strategy: Working with Heads of Operations in each Markets' business, drive location strategy for Markets Operations, building a common approach and consistency in deployment of teams. Build out understanding of locations and conduct feasibility studies on location options, including understanding cost and availability of talent. Build strategy that drives towards co-location of the various Markets Operations teams, working towards efficiency and client satisfaction goals.
- Business Management, Oversight and Information: Support the Group Head of Market Operations in driving common objectives for Markets Operations, setting objectives at a divisional level and defining standards for individual objectives. Provide regular updates on progress against divisional objectives. Ensure appropriate group and internal engagement is owned by the respective Operations teams. Work with Group Head of Markets Operations to define and create a common and desired culture for Markets Operations through an inclusive, energetic and results focused environment. Own preparation of material for internal meetings such as regular Business Reviews, coordinating with the various Heads of Operations and COOs across Markets to collect performance data and inputs. Create and report against common and data-based metrics for Markets Operations covering client satisfaction, processing accuracy, costs, volumes, and progression against projects. Plan engagement strategy for the Group Head of Operations, including cadence of divisional Operations town halls as well as regular meetings with Heads of Operations across Markets. Plan calendar of other key meetings, such as regular touch points with Heads of Businesses and COO across Markets.
- Financial Oversight: Oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and operational expenditure of Markets Operations. Determine both methodology and relevance of allocation drivers reviewing these frequently and pursue cost-effective solutions across all areas of Operations while working with Head of Operations to ensure high levels of service delivery.
- Strategic Planning and Execution: Leveraging best practice from across the group, collaborate with the Group Head of Markets Operations, divisional COOs and Head of Operations to develop, implement, and execute the strategy and vision, considering the perspectives of the clients, regulators and the mission and goals of the Group. As part of that implement a monitoring program for their governance, tracking and reporting. This will include preparation of strategy papers and business cases to seek investment into key projects.
- Governance: Set up governance channels and cadence of forums for Markets Operations to ensure appropriate and auditable approvals, discussion forums and committees to appropriately govern headcount, contractor spend, allocation of capex, as well as talent management.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Influence Markets Operations agenda across the wider Markets division, including through membership of COO community of practice within Markets. Act as a vital member of the Markets Operations leadership team and play a role in influencing Markets requirements to Group COO and Operations function. Support the Group Head of Markets Operations to build strong relationships with Group functions, ensuring Markets Operations agenda is aligned to that of the Group.
- Learning and Development: Working with others on the Markets Operations Leadership team, develop training agenda for Markets Operations, identifying needs/skills gaps, planning budget for training and working with group stakeholders to develop appropriate training programs.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Extensive experience in a business management or similar role, preferably in the financial services industry with a deep understanding of transactional client businesses within complex global institutions.
- A multi-disciplinary background spanning pre and post trade markets, trading platforms, risk, operational and commercial leadership, with an understanding of managing global lines of business.
- Strong understanding of technology platforms, risk products, sales and marketing methodologies, and regulatory landscape in financial markets.
- Experience of supporting transformation of large teams and leading change programmes fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
- Demonstrated stakeholder management skills to drive strong internal relationships at senior levels.
- Strong communication and organisation skills.
- Track record of building strategy papers, preparing business cases and performance reports that are presented up to and including executive committees and boards.
- Experienced at developing metrics and KPIs that track performance in an operations setting.
- Exceptional capabilities to manage within a matrixed organization, to implement and effect high standards of Governance, and to act as counsel and advisor to peers.
