Role Overview

The Deputy CTO partners with the CTO to lead the day-to-day operations of The Company’s global engineering organization. You will hold near-executive authority over engineering delivery, operational resilience, organizational health, and budget across all divisions. By connecting business strategy to world-class technical execution, you will ensure our high-frequency trading and asset management platforms scale reliably, freeing the CTO to focus on long-range AI transformation and external representation.

What Success Looks Like (12–18 Months)

  • Operational Excellence: A unified engineering cadence (OKRs, KPIs, delivery flow) is consistently adopted across divisions, enabling VPs to operate with high autonomy.
  • Platform Modernization: The multi-year trading platform consolidation transitions successfully from design to MVP with clear improvements in latency and deployment velocity.
  • Data Governance: A centralized, group-level data capability is live with a published catalog and cross-divisional SLAs.
  • Regulatory & Cost Control: Engineering consistently hits all MiCA, DORA, and SOC 2 milestones while managing cloud and vendor spend against clear business-unit baselines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Delivery & Cadence: Run day-to-day global engineering operations. Own OKRs, monthly business reviews, and delivery pipelines. Deputize for the CTO with the Board, ExCo, and external partners.
  • Platform Consolidation & Data Strategy: Lead the multi-year unification of The Company's trading infrastructure across 80+ venues and 1,400+ markets. Oversee the creation of shared group data pipelines and governance.
  • Cybersecurity Execution & Compliance: Own the on-the-ground execution of The Company’s security and regulatory commitments (MiCA, DORA, SOC 2). Foster a 'controls-by-design' engineering culture while respecting regulated divisional information walls.
  • Talent, Budget & Scale: Manage the global engineering budget, vendor relationships, and M&A engineering integrations. Mentor divisional VPs, refine career frameworks, and scale the team across Europe and the US.

Core Competencies

  • Scale Operational Leadership: Proven ability to design and run engineering operating models (metrics, governance, delivery) for global teams.
  • Technical Depth & Decision-Making: Comfortable challenging senior architects on system design and making decisive, firm-wide trade-offs under constraints.
  • Executive Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex technical risks, budgets, and timelines into crisp, actionable insights for ExCo and the Board.
  • Regulatory Execution Fluency: Expert at translating high-level security strategies into practical, everyday engineering workflows and compliance outcomes.

Key Experiences & Target Background

  • Trading & Crypto Infrastructure: Substantial experience with low-latency distributed systems, algorithmic trading infrastructure, and digital assets (CEX/DEX market structure, custody, on-chain settlement). Familiarity with Rust is a strong plus.
  • Multi-Division Scale & Consolidation: Proven track record running global engineering across multiple business lines, including executing large-scale platform consolidations and managing shared data/infra functions.
  • Regulated Environments: Experience operating within strict regulatory frameworks (MiCA, DORA, SOC 2) and managing engineering across compliance-driven information walls.
  • Operational #2 Profile: Prior experience as a trusted senior deputy or operational partner to a technical founder or CTO, taking true ownership of execution while strategy is held by the principal.
  • Growth & M&A Integration: Experience scaling engineering organizations through rapid maturity phases and integrating acquired technical teams.
