An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and talented Legal Counsel to join the legal team at Berenberg's London Branch. The role reports directly to the London-based team head of Berenberg’s Corporate Centre Legal UK and has a diverse workload encompassing general commercial, equities, and investment banking business‑related legal work in a fast‑paced environment. The role is based onsite at our London Branch offices.
What will you do?
- Draft, review and negotiate a variety of documentation, including broker terms and conditions, client contracts, research agreements, terms of business, commission sharing agreements, and general commercial agreements.
- Support internal stakeholders such as the Events, IT and Procurement teams in London.
- Act as a contact point for UK law‑related matters for the wider in‑house legal team.
- Engage regularly with internal functions including Compliance, HR, Tax, IT, Middle Office and Operations to provide timely legal guidance and advice.
- Provide oversight and expert advice on a variety of regulatory issues with a particular focus on the equities business.
- Coordinate with external legal advisors to ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective legal advice when required.
Who are we looking for?
- Legally qualified in England and Wales with a range of 2+ years PQE.
- An equivalent background in a top‑tier law firm.
- Good experience working in a busy legal team is advantageous.
- Ideally, experience supporting a financial institution, specifically equities and investment banking businesses from a legal perspective.
- High level of diligence, discipline and integrity.
- Experience liaising with other departments during contract negotiation and taking instructions from the business and other functions.
