The Team

Join our Real‑time Market Data team, part of our Data Engineering organisation at the heart of a quantitative investment firm, powering the market data infrastructure that drives our systematic trading strategies and cutting‑edge discretionary research. As the lead of the team, you will architect a multi‑petabyte scale estate, processing billions of datapoints daily from thousands of data sources. Our stack combines Java and Python, with foundations of Kafka, ArcticDB, MongoDB, and more. This is an opportunity to tackle complex distributed system challenges at exceptional scale and to leverage AI development tools to accelerate delivery and drive their adoption across the team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 6 high‑performing engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Set the strategic direction of the team, define the technical roadmap and align it with broader Data Engineering and firm‑wide objectives.
  • Remain a hands‑on engineer, contributing directly to the codebase and leading by example on technical design and implementation.
  • Navegate commercial and technical conversations with external data vendors, managing relationships and ensuring the firm’s data needs are met.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders across systematic trading, discretionary research and technology to translate requirements into successful delivery.
  • Drive the adoption of AI‑assisted development tools across the team to accelerate delivery and raise engineering productivity.
  • Own the operational excellence of a multi‑petabyte, low‑latency market data platform processing billions of datapoints daily.

Required

  • 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
  • Experience with real‑time market data feeds.
  • Experience running and delivering complex projects to an exceptionally high standard.
  • Deep knowledge of one or more relevant technologies such as Iceberg, KDB or Kafka.
  • Expertise in distributed systems at scale.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Experience with performance optimisation and large‑scale data processing.
  • Ability to turn stakeholder requirements into successful outcomes.
  • Embrace agentic engineering – willingness and ability to work effectively with AI‑assisted development tools as part of daily workflow.
  • Strong academic record and a degree with high mathematical and computing content (e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or Physics).

Advantageous

  • Deep expertise in Java and Python.
  • Proficiency on Linux platforms and strong understanding of Git.
  • Contributions to open‑source projects.
  • Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs).
