The role is a legal position responsible for delivering legal support, thought leadership, advice and guidance to Citi businesses and functions across a broad range of assigned practice areas and matters within the Technology, Operations & Privacy (TOP) Legal Team, which forms part of the broader Citi Legal Department. This dynamic and supportive team of lawyers provides commercial and technology legal advice supporting stakeholders including Citi's Procurement Team, overseeing third‑party supplier and outsourcing contracts, regulatory matters, and a wide range of commercial contracts.
The role suits a pragmatic, proactive, adaptable commercial lawyer with a positive attitude who is comfortable working independently while also supporting other lawyers and colleagues as a collaborative team player.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee assigned legal activities across commercial contracts, outsourcing negotiations, and alternative matters, providing advice on technology law, data protection law and regulations applicable to commercial contracting.
- Devise legal strategy and work to ensure you personally deliver on assigned matters.
- Provide legal coverage on strategic projects across Citi business and legal practice areas affecting TOP Legal.
- Collaborate positively with team colleagues on assigned or delegated matters.
- Act as a subject matter expert advising internal stakeholders on specific matters where required.
- Manage internal client relationships and ensure efficient delivery of legal advice.
- Monitor regulatory developments, internal policy changes and legal updates, managing consequences for deals, negotiations, and resultant legal issues, escalating when necessary.
- Where necessary, proactively upskill into new areas through a positive attitude and willingness to develop.
- Engage and manage external counsel, where required.
What We’ll Need From You
- Commercial lawyer with relevant legal experience and ability to run transactions and deals as legal counsel.
- Qualified and in good standing to practise law in the UK.
- Strong negotiation and drafting capabilities across commercial contracts such as master services agreements, Work Orders, NDAs and alternative forms of commercial contracts.
- Financial services, law‑firm or in‑house commercial legal experience advantageous.
- Experience of complex global / cross‑border commercial deals and working with legal teams in other jurisdictions is also beneficial.
- Strong understanding of EU and UK legal and regulatory obligations and developments, including technology laws, data protection laws, outsourcing and operational resilience requirements.
- Proven analytical, organisational and risk‑management skills with the ability to analyse complex issues and develop creative legal solutions.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication with an ability to build and maintain trusted colleague and internal client relationships.
- Ability to work independently to achieve pragmatic solutions, but also as part of a team on projects or where receiving assigned matters or instructions from other team lawyers.
