As a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist at NHS Jobs, you will play a crucial role in providing information, advice, and guidance on the safe, effective, and economical use of medicines. Your responsibilities include challenging poor practices, maintaining service and safety standards, and developing/enforcing guidelines and policies. You will optimize medicines management through drug history reconciliation, medication reviews, counseling, and using patient-specific medicines. Additionally, you will undertake adverse drug reactions reporting, monitor interventions, and actively participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct medication reviews and counseling.
- Report adverse drug reactions and incidents.
- Record clinical activity and monitor outcomes.
- Participate in CQUINs and best value medicines initiatives.
- Lead and support quality improvement of medicines.
- Implement countywide and local prescribing strategies.
- Develop expertise in high-cost drugs and support related teams.
- Lead audits within specialist areas and undertake QI projects.
- Analyze data and report on high-cost drugs.
- Attend Directorate meetings to address pharmaceutical issues.
Education, Training, and Supervision:
- Attend clinical pharmacy team meetings and relevant training schemes.
- Supervise aspects of pharmacist trainee training.
- Line manage and lead allocated staff, conduct appraisals, and identify training needs.
- Provide information to patients, parents, and carers on treatment and medication.
- Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and take responsibility for CPD.
- Develop specialist expertise in the chosen specialty area.
- Obtain/maintain prescribing qualification and support specialty clinics and ward rounds.
- Provide training for Technicians in enhanced patient counseling skills and Medicines Management Technician training.
