Key Responsibilities
- Management and Development of Paediatric Pharmacy Service: The Principal Pharmacist – Oncology is responsible for managing and developing a safe and effective paediatric pharmacy service. This role focuses on supporting the Oncology/Haematology multidisciplinary team within the Division of Medicine. Key tasks include prescription verification and clinical monitoring of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT).
- Expert Advisory Role: This position requires providing expert advice on paediatric drug therapy to pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff across the Trust, specifically within the Oncology/Haematology services. The pharmacist will lead the Oncology/Haematology Pharmacy Team, ensuring pharmacists and technicians receive relevant specialist training.
- Leadership and Collaboration: The Principal Pharmacist will oversee the Oncology/Haematology Pharmacy Team, ensuring high standards of practice and fostering a collaborative environment. They will coordinate specialist training programs for pharmacists and technicians to enhance their skills and knowledge in paediatric Oncology/Haematology.
- Liaison with Senior Clinicians: The role involves regular communication with senior clinicians to promote safe medication practices and manage risks effectively. This collaboration ensures that the pharmacy service aligns with the highest standards of patient care and safety.
- System Management and Improvement: A key responsibility is the management, development, and implementation of computerised prescribing systems for SACT. This includes contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of the Division’s Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration system.
- Standards of Care and Research: The Principal Pharmacist will develop, implement, and monitor pharmaceutical standards of care. This includes undertaking audits and conducting research to continuously improve the paediatric Oncology/Haematology Pharmacy Service.
