Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join their team in Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man. This role is integral to the architecture, installation, and operation of hardware and software technologies that host cloud services. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of a comprehensive cloud suite, including IaaS, disaster recovery, backup, network, security, and associated services across various virtualisation platforms and cloud stacks. The role will involve investigating, designing, deploying, and automating new technologies to meet both current and future needs in the evolving cloud services market. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will collaborate closely with customers to design and deliver complex, enterprise-level infrastructures. From initial engagement to solution design and ongoing support, the individual will engage in the full lifecycle of service delivery, ensuring high standards and customer satisfaction.
Job Duties
- Design, administer, manage, and provide third-level support for: Virtualisation platform stacks, management/orchestration tools, and associated technologies.
- Operating systems including Linux, Windows, SQL, and supporting technologies.
- Software-defined networking (SDN) and virtual/physical networking, including enterprise networking and firewall platforms.
- Resolve complex technical issues at the root cause level.
- Provide professional consultancy for infrastructure technologies, including cloud services onboarding.
- Manage third-party support cases, escalating issues as necessary.
- Contribute to continuous service improvement with innovative ideas.
- Mentor and guide team members in specialist areas.
- Draft and maintain documentation for new systems, services, and technologies.
- Prioritise and manage time effectively to meet stakeholder expectations.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals and supporting documents for new business opportunities.
- Present cloud services vision and strategies to executives and technical teams.
- Maintain and grow relationships with staff and partners to enhance customer value.
- Liaise with customers regarding virtual infrastructure design, network strategies, and backup/disaster recovery plans.
- Participate in capacity planning, performance analysis, and lifecycle management of cloud infrastructure platforms.
- Collaborate with the Security Architect to review cloud infrastructure assets and implement security strategies.
- Support cloud services as part of an on-call rota.
Job Requirements
- Expert knowledge of IT infrastructure, including compute, storage, hardware platforms, operating systems, virtualisation, and security devices.
- Extensive experience with backup, replication, and disaster recovery technologies.
- Professional qualifications in relevant disciplines, such as VCP, MCSE, or CCNP.
- Proven experience delivering exceptional customer service.
- Excellent communication skills in person, over the phone, and in writing.
- Ability to take initiative and resolve problems independently.
- Strong organisational skills with a demonstrated high level of accuracy.
- Over 5 years' experience in a senior systems administration or infrastructure engineering role, ideally in a service provider environment.
- Strong understanding of security-centric infrastructure design and best practices.
- Knowledge of ITIL, ISO27001, and PCI-DSS is preferred.
