Our client is expanding their underwriting team and is seeking both a Senior Underwriter and an Underwriter to join the business on a full-time, permanent basis. These roles can be based in either the Guernsey or Jersey office. The successful candidates will have prior experience in underwriting and ideally hold Cert CII or Dip CII qualifications. A strong understanding of the local insurance market would be advantageous.

Job Duties

  • Assess, evaluate and underwrite new and existing insurance policies in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Manage a portfolio of business, ensuring profitability and compliance with internal standards.
  • Build and maintain relationships with brokers and other key stakeholders.
  • Analyse risk information to determine appropriate terms and premiums.
  • Contribute to product development and underwriting strategy as required.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to less experienced team members (Senior Underwriter only).
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date underwriting records and systems.
  • Assist in delivering team and business objectives through proactive contribution.

Job Requirements

  • Cert CII or Dip CII qualification, or working towards a professional insurance qualification.
  • Demonstrable underwriting experience, preferably within personal or commercial insurance.
  • Sound understanding of risk assessment and insurance principles.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with underwriting systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise workloads.
  • Knowledge of the local insurance market is desirable.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to team working.
