The Communications and Engagement Specialist supports the Head of Communications and Stakeholder Engagement to deliver engaging, clear, impactful and external communications and campaigns. The role combines strong writing and digital content skills with sound judgement and stakeholder awareness, supporting communications across multiple channels including the website, employee intranet, media, campaigns and social media. Working closely with teams across the business, the Communications and Engagement Specialist will deliver clear, consistent and engaging communications, support stakeholder engagement activity and contribute to major projects such as water quality initiatives and infrastructure programmes. The role will be instrumental for ensuring consistent messaging, improved responsiveness and public trust, particularly during periods of increased demand and high-profile and complex challenges, such as water quality and supply risks and long-term infrastructure investment. The role contributes directly to Jersey Water’s success by strengthening communications capability, supporting strategic programmes and ensuring effective, consistent engagement with all stakeholders. This position is varied and fast-paced, balancing planned campaigns and projects with reactive communications and emerging issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Content creation and editing across internal and external channels (website, intranet, press, reports and campaigns)
- Social media management and monitoring, including planning and performance insight
- Stakeholder engagement and communications planning, supporting delivery of engagement strategies
- Project communications support, particularly for major programmes of work
- Campaign planning and delivery, including water awareness and customer engagement initiatives
- Internal communications delivery, supporting employee engagement and organisational updates
- Event coordination and communications support for corporate and internal events
- Issues and incident communications support, ensuring timely, accurate and consistent messaging
- Digital content management systems and basic analytics to measure engagement and performance
- Strong stakeholder management, translating complex information into clear, accessible messaging
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Proven experience in a communications, PR or engagement role
- Strong writing, editing and content creation skills across multiple formats
- Development and delivery of integrated marketing and communications activity, supporting campaigns, projects and organisational priorities
- Working knowledge of brand management, ensuring consistent application of tone, messaging and visual identity across all communications and marketing outputs
- Understanding of audience segmentation and targeting to ensure communications and marketing activity is relevant and effective
- Experience managing digital channels, including website and social media
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across the business
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines
- A proactive, flexible approach with a focus on continuous improvement
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality
- Ability to exercise sound judgement, particularly in sensitive or high‑profile situations
Benefits
After completion of the probation period: Pension – Membership of the defined contribution scheme. Jersey Water pays 5% up to 5 years’ service and then 10%, employees pay 5%. A matching scheme is available whereby Jersey Water matches additional voluntary contributions up to a maximum of 5%. Death in Service – 4 times salary. Private health scheme – Non contributory.
