Were seeking a Marine Compliance and Safety Manager to join our marine management team based between two ports in the East of England
In this role you will lead on ensuring compliance with statutory marine regulations across two vital ports. This is more than a compliance role its an opportunity to lead change, engage with stakeholders, and shape the future of marine safety within our dynamic port operations.
You will be ensure adherence to all statutory marine safety regulations, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement and continuously improve our marine compliance and safety systems. You will also play a key role in audits, incident reviews and statutory reporting.
You will have:
- Marine experience, either afloat or ashore, with a strong understanding and experience of statutory marine legislation;
- A keen eye for detail and a methodical approach to work;
- A collaborative team player, confident in stakeholder engagement and influencing others;
- UK driving licence;
- Ideally, compliance or safety management experience, but training will be provided;
- NEBOSH/IOSH qualified or willing to work toward this.
Main Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor and review new legislation to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Manage the Marine Safety Management Systems (MSMS) in accordance with best practices and industry standards.
- Lead internal and external audits of the MSMS, ensuring adherence to safety and compliance requirements.
- Take the lead in overseeing /investigating incidents, produce detailed reports, and implement recommendations for improvement.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement by for example chairing Leisure and Commercial User Group meetings.
- Promote best practices and drive continuous improvement across the SE Cluster.
- Conduct audits of 3rdparty terminals/ facilities , ensuring adherence to safety and environmental regulations and management of bridging documents.
- Champion workplace health and safety through leadership and compliance with marine environment-specific legislation.
- Provide out-of-hours management and incident response support as required.
- Oversee environmental compliance, including pollution control and emergency response planning.
Decision Making
The Marine Compliance and Safety Manager along with the other members of the Marine Management team will be required to report specific strategic recommendations to Port Director & Group Harbour Master and detail evolutionary recommendations to Senior Managers and Operational Staff in line with operational observations and lessons learnt.
The Compliance Officer will be required to make job related decisions and to prioritise work in line with operational requirements and the delivery of productivity and cost performance aligned to budgetary controls. The ability to react to operational situations in a timely manner is required at all times.
