The Method is a modern luxury wellness brand celebrated in Vogue, Forbes, Harper's Bazaar and The Times. We combine world-class fitness, recovery, nutrition and community experiences into beautifully designed spaces, currently operating flagship sites in Notting Hill and two studios in Paris, with further international expansion actively underway.
This is a hands‑on role for a qualified accountant who wants to be close to the action in a fast‑growing, ambitious business, not a manager overseeing a team, but someone who rolls up their sleeves and owns the numbers end‑to‑end.
The Opportunity: As Financial Controller you will be the engine of our finance function, building the reporting infrastructure, financial models and controls that a scaling, multi‑territory business needs. You will work directly with the founders and leadership team, translating numbers into insight and giving the business the financial clarity to grow with confidence. This is a rare opportunity to shape a finance function from the ground up, in a brand at an exciting inflection point.
The Basics:
- Salary: £70-80k
- Hours: Full-time, hybrid
- Location: Notting Hill
- Reporting to: The Founder + senior leadership team
The Role:
Financial Reporting & Modelling:
- Own the month‑end close and produce accurate management accounts: P&L, balance sheet and cashflow to tight deadlines
- Build and maintain financial models for scenario planning, new site appraisals and international expansion decisions
- Develop KPI dashboards covering revenue, membership, class utilisation, retention, payroll and profitability
- Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecasting processes; track performance and flag risks and opportunities proactively
- Deliver clear, commercially focused commentary to support leadership decision‑making
- Analyse membership, class, treatment and retail revenue streams to identify margin improvement opportunities
Payroll, Tax & Compliance:
- Manage end‑to‑end UK payroll and associated compliance (P11D, PSA, auto‑enrolment)
- Prepare and submit VAT returns and CT61; support year‑end accounts and statutory filings
- Liaise with external advisers on UK and French tax matters as the group expands internationally
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant financial and regulatory requirements
Systems & Process:
- Evaluate and optimise the finance tech stack: accounting software, payroll, membership and booking system integrations
- Build scalable processes and reporting frameworks suited to a multi‑site, multi‑currency, international business
- Drive efficiencies and reduce manual work through better system integration and automation
The Person:
Qualifications & Experience:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified (or equivalent), with a minimum of 3 years post‑qualification experience
- Demonstrable experience building financial models — scenario analysis, new location appraisals, forecasting
- Proven track record of managing full‑cycle bookkeeping and financial control, not just reporting
- Strong command of UK payroll, VAT, P11D, PSA and auto‑enrolment requirements
- Experience in a founder‑led, high‑growth SME where you have had to create structure, not inherit it
- Background in fitness, wellness, hospitality, leisure or a multi‑site consumer business is a strong advantage
- Exposure to multi‑currency accounting and/or international entities is desirable but not essential
Technical Skills:
- Advanced Excel - comfortable building models from scratch, not just maintaining existing ones
- Proficient in Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or similar cloud accounting software
- Ability to design and maintain KPI reporting and management dashboards
Personal Attributes:
- A doer: you are equally comfortable setting the strategy and reconciling the bank account yourself
- Commercially sharp - you translate numbers into business decisions, not just reports
- Highly organised and rigorous, with an instinct for spotting errors and building reliable processes
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to prioritise in a fast‑moving environment
- Direct communicator who can challenge constructively and influence without authority
- Genuinely excited by a premium consumer brand with real growth ambitions
What's on offer:
- A senior, high‑impact finance role in one of London's most exciting wellness brands
- Direct access to founders and genuine influence over how the business grows
- Competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience
- Complimentary membership to The Method
- Beautiful offices in Notting Hill, at the heart of our flagship club
- The opportunity to grow with the business as we expand across Europe and beyond
