WELCOME TO BASF BASF plc is a subsidiary of BASF SE, marketing a wide range of BASF products in the UK. These include agricultural solutions, automotive refinish paints, acrylic monomers, fine chemicals, intermediate chemicals, speciality chemicals, dispersions, and plastics. BASF plc operates a chemical manufacturing site in Bradford, producing a wide range of additives for the coatings and cosmetics industries, operating within a regulated environment as a Lower Tier COMAH establishment.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

As EHS Manager your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring compliance with EHS legislation (including COMAH, Environmental Permitting Regulations) and BASF Responsible Care requirements by maintaining and continuously improving a Responsible Care Management System covering all EHS disciplines.
  • Managing permits and regulatory interactions (e.g. EA, HSE), ensuring all legal obligations and reporting deadlines are met, preparation for and representing the site in internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews, and coordinating responses and follow-up actions.
  • Providing professional advice and practical support on all EHS topics, including contractor management, risk assessments, work at height, confined space entry and waste management.
  • Acting as a key member of the Site Leadership Team, providing strategic EHS guidance and influencing decision-making at all levels.
  • Driving EHS performance through root cause analysis and implementation of sustainable improvements, deployment of EHS initiatives and best practices and ensuring timely interpretation and implementation of new or changing legislation.
  • Promoting a Safety Culture of continuous improvement and learning by collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Establishing effective procedures and mechanisms for timely feedback to employees, acknowledging their contributions to the Safety Culture on site.
  • Liaising with external stakeholders including regulators, emergency services, local authorities and neighbouring sites, and supporting emergency planning and preparedness activities, including site-level and exercises with external agencies.
  • Overseeing site waste management through the coordination of approved external service providers, ensuring that waste is appropriately characterised and documented, and that classification, labelling, transport, and disposal activities are conducted in full compliance with applicable legislation.

WHAT YOU OFFER

Ideally educated to Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant discipline (e.g. Safety Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science) or equivalent experience. Chartered or working towards professional accreditation (e.g. IOSH, IEMA) with a recognised safety qualification (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent). Strong working knowledge of UK EHS legislation, particularly within chemical manufacturing and COMAH-regulated environments. Demonstrable experience in EHS performance management, regulatory engagement and compliance management. Environmental expertise (e.g. air emissions, waste, water compliance) is highly desirable. A proactive individual with strong ownership and accountability with a high level of organisation and discipline in documentation, record keeping, and personal task management. Possessing good problem-solving abilities with strong interpersonal and influencing skills, able to engage effectively from shop floor to senior leadership level.
