Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, the Director of Finance leads a team of 15 and is accountable for overseeing the Company's reporting and accounting functions. This role includes financial and management reporting, finance operations, corporate tax compliance and a key role in system transformation and change management initiatives. The Director of Finance is also responsible for ensuring compliance with established accounting standards and tax regulations, and for maintaining and improving business process and internal controls. In addition, this role is expected to provide ongoing leadership, development and training to the finance and accounting team, among other duties.
Responsibilities
- Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Oversee the Company's overall accounting and financial reporting framework, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant reporting across all entities.
- Direct the end-to-end financial close and consolidation process, ensuring timelines and reporting standards support effective executive decision-making.
- Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support reliable and consistent financial information.
- Lead the annual audit process, overseeing consolidated financial results and intercompany activities, and ensuring strong, timely coordination with external auditors.
- Corporate Tax Compliance
- Work closely with the external tax consultants and oversee the preparation of the corporate tax returns for all entities, ensuring the alignment of the deadline of tax provision and annual financial statements preparation.
- Work with external tax consultants to ensure CRA audits and reviews are addressed appropriately and in a timely manner, and to identify and assess tax issues arising from new tax developments or changes in the Company's activities.
- Process Improvement and Systems Optimization
- Lead process improvement initiatives and modernization efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and strengthen internal controls.
- Oversee the rollout of ERP and other system improvements, ensuring alignment with Company policies, risks, and controls.
- Leadership and Team Development
- Lead and develop the finance team through coaching, collaboration and succession planning.
- Drive change management initiatives while developing and supporting the finance team.
- Technical Accounting and Compliance
- Stay current with GAAP/ASPE and tax regulations, and provide guidance to senior management and finance team on accounting and tax matters relevant to the organization.
- Maintain and review complete supporting documentation, including accounting memos and schedules.
Requirements
- Chartered Professional Accountant ("CPA") designation required, with 10+ years progressive experience and minimum 2 years at team leadership level.
- Extensive knowledge in financial reporting, audit, taxation and accounting principles.
- Strong team leadership skills with the ability to assess and elevate team performance, and to coach and guide the team through periods of change.
- Experience in wholesale or distribution environment and/or public practice is an asset.
- Successful track record in business process implementation and improvement, including the implementation and optimization of systems and tools.
- Experience in internal controls over financial reporting is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills, including orally, written as well as in a presentation format.
