The Commercial Manager for Supply Chain, Improvement & Assurance will support the assurance of commercial transactions, lead supply chain qualification and engagement and drive commercial continuous improvement at Great British Nuclear (GBE-N). This role requires a proactive person with strong problem-solving skills, a commitment to accountability, and good knowledge of procurement, contract management and supply chain management principles.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of robust assurance processes to mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Lead the team to monitor and report compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies, ensuring that supply chain activities meet quality and safety standards.
  • Contribute to Supply Chain and Continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with industry standards and organisational goals, engaging with other ALBs to share lessons and embed best practice.
  • Ensure that all supply chain processes are well-documented and that performance reports are generated regularly to provide visibility into supply chain operations and improvements.
  • Engage with DESNZ, Cabinet Office, HMT and wider government organisations to ensure the required controls are in place and an effective governance regime is implemented.
  • Engage with cross functional stakeholders to advise on best practice, provide guidance and scrutiny to support the development of robust commercial strategies and business cases and engage with external governance bodies.
  • Develop a stakeholder management plan and communications plan to keep key stakeholders informed and bought into projects.
  • Engage industry to drive increased collaboration, standardisation and implementation of a common assessment methodology.
  • Support the analysis and management of commercial processes, ensuring alignment with GBE-N’s strategic objectives and operational requirements.
  • Manage and understand a range of varied challenges that require working cross functionally and with external organisations including industry bodies, identifying opportunities to improve and implement risk mitigations.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency gains, implementing best practice and innovative solutions that enhance performance and reduce costs.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to performance and provide reporting to the commercial management team.
  • Use data-driven insights to inform decision-making and drive improvements.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:
  • Strong commercial acumen, ability to grasp complex issues and can challenge senior stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience of public sector procurement, including expert working knowledge of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 (PCR15) and Procurement Act 2023 (PA23).
  • Strong understanding of supply chain management principles, practices, and industry standards, particularly within the nuclear or energy sectors.
  • The ability to establish and develop productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights that support performance improvement.
  • Experience of senior stakeholder engagement within a complex delivery environment and the ability to influence, change and impact decisions with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a focus on identifying issues and implementing innovative solutions to overcome and drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective presentations to diverse audiences and fostering collaboration across teams.
  • Experience in leading improvement initiatives and managing projects, with a demonstrated ability to drive change.
  • Knowledge of contracting principles, including NEC, mid tier and model services contracts.
  • Familiarity with commercial management software and tools, along with advanced skills in data analysis tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, BI tools).
Qualifications:
  • Degree level qualification preferably in a relevant subject or equivalent level of knowledge & experience.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) and/or International Association for Commercial and Contract Management (IACCM) accreditation are desirable.
