PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £44,000 - £50,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Purpose of the Role

Join the Sport Digital Growth Team at BBC Sport as a Senior Data Analyst, focusing on iPlayer content. You’ll play a key role in driving digital growth through data insight, working with editorial, product, and marketing teams to shape the future of BBC Sport’s digital platforms.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Lead and deliver impactful analytics projects, including large-scale initiatives and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborate with Audience, Editorial, and Product teams to provide both tactical and strategic insights.
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations using innovative storytelling and presentation techniques.
  • Support Principal Analysts and mentor junior team members, contributing to a culture of learning and collaboration.
  • Break down complex problems into manageable parts to deliver effective, data-driven solutions.
  • Help non-technical colleagues understand how data can support their day-to-day work.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across BBC Sport, managing expectations of senior stakeholders when needed.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to use data to inform content creation, commissioning, and curation across BBC Sport platforms.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Educated to degree level or above in STEM subject or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in delivering analysis projects in corporate or public sector organisations.
  • Experience of AV Data gathering and analysis in the media industry.
  • Understanding of one or more data scripting language such as Python, R or SQL.
  • Experience developing relationships and presenting results to senior stakeholders.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Naturally inquisitive, and enjoys problem solving.
  • Ability to manage project teams and help other members prioritise work, as well as the ability to manage your own time and prioritise accordingly.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enjoys collaboration and working as part of a team.
  • Self-starter who also works well in a complex organisation where you must take people with you to achieve goals.
