Location: Oxygen House, Exeter Business Park, EX1 3LH

Term: Permanent, Full-time

Hours: Flex start and finish times - 40 hours per week Monday to Friday

Salary: Up to £50,000 plus generous company benefits

The Role

An exciting opportunity has become available with an Exeter based Family Office who are looking for a Finance Manager. Reporting to and working closely with the Financial Controller, the Finance Manager will play a key role in managing the finances of the Family Office, as well as overseeing day‑to‑day accounting activities. This is a varied role spanning financial reporting, planning, risk mitigation, process improvement and team supervision. You will play an important role in supporting effective financial management, maintaining strong financial controls and contributing to long‑term financial objectives. Clear communication, sound judgement and discretion will be essential, together with the ability to build trusted relationships and provide practical financial insight.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties

  • Prepare and review quarterly reporting across a diverse group of commercial businesses, charitable organisations, farming and other entities, working closely with stakeholders to understand performance, identify issues and provide clear, meaningful financial insight.
  • Lead the month‑end close process, including review of balance sheet reconciliations and key control accounts, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records and timely delivery of reporting.
  • Oversee and approve payment runs, ensuring appropriate supporting documentation, authorisation, cash availability, and adherence to internal financial controls.
  • Prepare and review year‑end statutory accounts, disclosures and supporting working papers, liaising with external auditors and advisers where needed.
  • Coordinate tax and financial compliance requirements across the Family Office to ensure relevant obligations and deadlines are understood and met.
  • Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, cash‑flow forecasts, and scenario modelling.
  • Monitor cash positions and liquidity across the Family Office entities, supporting effective cash management and ensuring sufficient funds are available to meet operational requirements.
  • Continuously review and improve finance systems and reporting tools, developing and updating reporting templates and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy and automation.
  • Supervise, mentor and develop members of the finance team, supporting day‑to‑day activities and overall team performance.

Requirements

About you

  • An accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA with at least two years’ PQE, or qualified by experience to an equivalent level.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including experience preparing financial statements and a good understanding of relevant financial reporting and tax requirements.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to provide clear and practical financial advice while listening to and considering the input of others.
  • Ability to work with agility in a varied and responsive environment, adapting to changing stakeholder requirements and priorities.
  • Experience working closely with external advisers, including tax and accounting specialists.
  • Experience working within a Family Office or charitable environment would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy and high‑quality financial reporting.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain strong working relationships.
  • A professional manner, sound judgement and the ability to work with discretion and confidentiality.
