Director, Core Python Lead | Investment Bank – London About the Role: We are seeking a Director-level Core Python Lead to join a leading investment bank in London. In this role, you will lead a small, high-performing team dedicated to driving the adoption and development of a cutting-edge front-office application platform. You will balance technical leadership, prototyping innovations, and mentoring developers to deliver impactful solutions that meet evolving business needs. This is a hybrid position, requiring both hands-on contributions and leadership to ensure the platform’s growth and success. Key Accountabilities: Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of developers focused on accelerating platform adoption by front-office users across Markets. Propose and implement solutions to user challenges while empowering users to self-serve through training and guidance. Platform Development: Develop and support common platform components that address immediate business needs. Prototype and implement technical innovations that can enhance the platform for broader use cases. Strategic Collaboration: Collaborate with IT teams to ensure the platform infrastructure evolves to meet short- and long-term business objectives. Liaise with business stakeholders to align platform enhancements with operational goals. Standards and Practices: Establish and enforce development standards and best practices for platform usage. Ensure adherence to these standards by guiding and reviewing contributions from developers. Qualifications: Python Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with Python, including building scalable and performant applications. Web Development Knowledge: Proficiency in modern web development frameworks, particularly React . Containerisation & Orchestration: Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes (expert-level knowledge not required). Data Management: Knowledge of KDB is advantageous but not essential. Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor small teams, balancing strategic direction with hands-on involvement. Problem-Solving Ability: Proven track record of identifying and resolving technical challenges effectively. Financial Markets Knowledge: Familiarity with front-office processes, including trading or risk systems.
