Your role will include counseling on trade and economic sanctions issues, monitoring legal and regulatory trends, and identifying future areas of sanctions risk. Please note that this is a temporary 6-month role.
About the Team
This is an opportunity to be part of a global legal team that provides counsel on trade and economic sanctions across Swiss Re's businesses and multiple jurisdictions. As part of the team, you will provide pragmatic, solution-driven counsel to the business, senior management, contracts, and legal and compliance colleagues.
About the Role
Your main responsibilities are to:
- Serve as a subject matter expert on trade and economic sanctions laws and regulations, including providing advice to ensure compliance with US, UK, EU, and Swiss regimes, and drafting and reviewing sanctions-related contractual provisions;
- Assess and advise on potential regulatory issues and reporting requirements;
- Monitor relevant legal trends and developments;
- Engage and manage relationships with external counsel.
As a member of Division Legal, you will also:
- Contribute to quarterly and annual legal reports and group-wide, business unit, or division projects and initiatives;
- Help develop efficient policies and practices to promote and maintain high legal and ethical standards.
About You
We are seeking an outstanding communicator, able to provide high-quality, timely, and pragmatic client service, balanced with a clear focus on protecting the interests and reputation of Swiss Re. A high level of ethics and integrity is essential.
Education and qualifications:
University degree and qualified lawyer admitted to practice in England & Wales or another jurisdiction within EMEA.
Experience:
Solid experience in a financial crime legal advisory role with a specific focus on sanctions gained in a law firm and/or working as in-house counsel in a multinational organization. Prior experience working with and advising on financial crime and sanctions compliance frameworks, policies, and processes.
It would also be nice for you to have:
Proficiency in other languages in addition to English.
