As part of its Learning & Engagement portfolio, Opera North runs three in-house youth choral ensembles: Opera North Children’s Chorus, Opera North Young Voices, and Opera North Youth Chorus. An opportunity has now arisen for a Youth Chorus Master to lead the upper two ensembles.About Opera NorthOpera North is England’s national opera company in the North and one of Europe’s leading arts organisations. The company’s youth ensembles have performed at notable events such as the Aldeburgh Festival, Kirklees Concert Series, and Sage Gateshead, and have collaborated with renowned groups like the Royal Northern Sinfonia and Garsington Opera.Role OverviewThe Youth Chorus Master will collaborate with Opera North colleagues to direct the Youth Chorus and Young Voices during rehearsals, residential courses, concerts, and special events. The role includes conducting performances, leading artistic programming, and ensuring high standards and a varied annual program that combines core skills with concerts and staged shows.Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate will have substantial professional experience as a choral director and significant experience working with young people.
