Test Engineer III – Plymouth, MN – OnsiteMake your mark at the world\’s largest HVAC companyDaikin Applied is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Test Engineer III who will work in a large research and development laboratory evaluating performance of new products and technologies. Under intermittent supervision, you will work on a team that provide subject matter expertise to build and improve test facilities involving mechanical and electrical systems, data acquisition, control and automation. You will lead lab initiatives to prepare the equipment, people, and processes in support of the development of products and technologies across the portfolio of products. Come be a part of an exciting journey at Daikin Applied, where innovation and excellence drive our every endeavor!Location: Onsite, Plymouth, MNWhat you will do:Apply and further develop skills related to mechanical and electrical HVAC systems toward new product development engineering activitiesAct as primary technical resource for troubleshooting issues with test cells, instrumentation, data acquisition software, and test units, particularly for difficult and in-depth issuesCreate technical project plans for new or upgrades to existing capital test equipment, with limited supervisionCollaborate with cross-functional project teams to ensure testing expectations are clearly defined and communicated, providing technical insights and recommendationsChampion data collection process, from acquiring signals to data verification and reportingProvide comprehensive technical oversight as required for general testing activities to ensure the highest level of quality and integrity of resultImplement laboratory process improvements as related to productivity, metrics, and continuous improvementReview, comprehend, and interpret external testing standards and how they apply to internal testing proceduresDevelop new testing methodologies for incorporation into existing testing methods and procedures, particularly for in-depth and novel testing needsLead and coordinate activities with product engineers and a team of technicians, providing technical guidanceLead and interpret engineering drawings and specifications with limited supervision.Analyze and interpret data from test results. Coaches and reviews the work of lower-level specialistsActively and continuously develops existing technical expertise and expands into other areas as needs of the organization dictateWhat\’s in it for you:The ability to make an impact and shape your career with a company that is passionate about growthThe support of an organization that believes it is vital to include and engage diverse people, perspectives, and ideas to achieve our bestMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor\’s degree in Engineering6 to 8 years of experience in engineeringKnowledge and proficiency in testing methods for components, systems, and complete machinesKnowledge and proficiency in statistical methods related to test and product development disciplinesKnowledge of vapor-compression refrigerationAbility to plan and prioritize of multiple activities in a resource constrained environmentStrong interpersonal skills including demonstrated success in mentoring technical colleaguesAbility to manage and execute multiple projects simultaneouslyMust be able to work cooperatively and effectively with laboratory, design, and product marketing teamsPossess exceptional organization and communication skills including ability to prepare clear and concise technical and status reportsAbility to interpret and create technical standardsKnowledge and proficiency in the specification and setup of complex, automated test setupsPreferred Qualifications:LabVIEW experience and/or certificationEPA refrigerant certificationThorough understanding of HVAC equipment and components including water-cooled chillers, air-cooled chillers, and rooftop unitsProficient with fundamentals of instrumentation, including RTDs, thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow meters, electrical and power measurements, and analog/digital data acquisitionFormal coursework in the areas of measurement systems, heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine design, and strength of materialsExcellent verbal and written communication skills requiredAbility to multitask & reprioritize tasks frequentlyAbility to effectively coordinate and communicate with vendors to perform work and services relating to mechanical/electrical facility systemsExperience with PLC and PID controllersExperience working in R&D center/lab settingBenefits:Daikin Applied offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements:Multiple medical insurance plan options + dental and vision insurance401K retirement plan with employer matchPaid time off and company paid holidaysPaid sick time in accordance with the federal, state and local lawTuition Reimbursement after 6 months of continuous serviceThe typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $101,700 – $129,300 (plus 10% bonus) in Minnesota.
