Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJob TypeFull-timeDescriptionRich Engineering is seeking a Senior Structural Construction Inspector to perform as a Lead Quality Assurance Inspector on a multiple year, multiple structure Design-Build contract in the VDOT Bristol District. This position will work on heavy highway, road and bridge construction projects, monitoring contractors, ensuring quality assurance and contract conditions are met. This position will be working under the direction of a Quality Assurance Manager (QAM) or another designee. This position is expected to begin in Summer of 2025.RequirementsEssential FunctionsPrior Experience on VDOT Design-Build projects .Knowledge of VDOT\’s Minimum Requirements for Quality Assurance and Quality Control on Design Build and P3 Projects .Performance of Material Testing and Inspections and overseeing the material testing and inspections of Quality Control (Third Party).Taking field measurementsRead and Interpret Plans and Contract documents for structures, bridges, roadways, etc..Inspection of various aspects of work and project installation to ensure proper construction. May include inspection of excavations, drainage facilities, soil and aggregate placement, concrete placement, structure installations, paving operations, etc.Document pay quantities for current and final estimates.Complete Daily Summary of Construction Activities and work performed.Daily interaction with a contractor and ability to work with contractor\’s superintendent and foreman.Ability to advise contractors of violations. Ability to make recommendations of adjustments required. Ability to report to Quality Assurance Manager or Designee status of construction operations.Reviews lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using standard survey and field engineering equipment.Inspection of Erosion and Sediment Control Installations for environmental compliance.Inspection of BMP installationsInspection of Roadway Traffic Control and work zone safety.Maintains project records; including daily diaries, materials notebooks, material shipping tickets, as-built plans, meeting minutes, etc.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.CompetenciesCommunication proficiencyEthical ConductFlexibilityInitiativeTime ManagementSupervisory ResponsibilityThis position does not have supervisory responsibilities.Work EnvironmentThis job is performed in a professional office environment and or transportation construction job sites. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb, drive; lift things, use hands; and reach with hands and arms.Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position. This position typically works 40 or more hours per week. Day shifts usually start between 6:00 and 9:00 a.m. and last 8 to 10 hours. Project assignments can also require night or weekend work. Flexibility to meet client or contractor schedule is important.TravelThis position is expected to to perform on multiple bridge structure sites, all located within the VDOT Bristol District. It is that candidate live within driving distance to the project locations.Required Education and ExperienceExpected to have three (10+) years of highway construction and structural inspection experience.
