This professional staff technologist position will have an impact on quality, safety and the patient experience. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Required: Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program; Preferred: Associates degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Experience: Preferred: Two years of ultrasound experience. Other Skills/Knowledge: Required: For safety and quality reasons, must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors and fellow members of the hospital team. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS: Required: Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty(ies) as appropriate, or registry eligible. If registry eligible, must obtain registration within 12 months of hire date. LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Basic Life Support. POPULATION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Neonates, Infants, Children, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics. As part of the Radiology team, the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer: Educates and informs patients and family members throughout the patients’ experience. Communicates effectively with the healthcare team utilizing established handoff procedures. Gives and accepts respectful feedback to enhance teamwork. Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations. Uses sonographic skills to identify, record, and modify procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. Analyses sonograms, incorporates sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician. Coordinates work schedule with departmental supervisor and/or scheduling desk. Assists with the daily operation of the sonographic lab. Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area and maintains adequate supplies. Participates in the maintenance of the accreditation process. Educates and informs patients and family members throughout the patients’ experience. Communicates effectively with the healthcare team utilizing established handoff procedures. Gives and accepts respectful feedback to enhance teamwork. Minimizes preventable harm events and consistently executes the infection control protocols. Incorporates the Culture of Safety tools in daily practice, adhering to quality and safety guidelines and communicating near-miss or potential risks.
