We have been assigned by one of the UK\’s most prestigious NHS Trusts to help recruit a Consultant in Emergency Medicine on either a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful A&E department. Department Overview The department includes a fully equipped resuscitation room with three bays, high and low acuity majors treatment areas with nine and ten cubicles, a separate hot area with 6 beds, and a minors area. There is a dedicated seminar room with modern presentation aids. The department is undergoing a rebuild, expected to be completed in 2022, which will include 8 resuscitation bays and a separate children\’s ED with a co-located paediatric assessment area. Facilities also include a fully equipped theatre, ENT and Ophthalmic units, and dedicated examination and waiting rooms for children. The hospital is a Major Trauma Unit with a purpose-built helipad and is well supported by in-house specialties including plastics, with proximity to main x-ray, theatres, and ITU. Role Responsibilities Shared responsibility for initial care and reception of all patients attending the ED. Management of patients under the ED’s care, including monitoring the interface from primary to secondary care. Overseeing resuscitation, admitting areas, and patient transfers to inpatient services. Developing close working relationships with colleagues and other healthcare professionals, establishing clear communication channels. Providing emergency cover for absent colleagues and supervising junior staff caring for emergency patients. Participating in departmental training programs and providing situational teaching. Leading or contributing to audit projects to improve practice and develop clinical quality standards.
