The CMO is a member of the executive leadership team responsible for the overall medical affairs related to health care delivery. The CMO fosters collaboration across academic, employed, and independent physician groups. The CMO champions a culture of safety, trust-based relationships and supporting care standards to elevate the level of quality and operational efficiency. This individual plays a key leadership role in aligning clinical excellence with business performance and brings proven experience leading quality teams and managing performance on national benchmarks including Leapfrog Safety Grades and CMS Star Ratings.The position links the efforts of the hospital’s quality initiatives with those of the Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) system to establish a foundation that maximizes clinical quality integration.Primary Responsibilities:Collaborate with the President and executive team to develop and execute long-term business strategies that leverage clinical strengths to achieve market differentiation.Collaborates with medical staff leadership to develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate annual performance improvement plans and initiatives for service departments.Oversee quality/patient safety program and monitor clinical performance metrics. (inclusive of the Transforming Episode Accountability Model-TEAMS).Serves as the Hospital’s administrative representative and key resource for the Medical Executive Committee and Quality Patient Experience and Care Assessment CommitteeChampions physician engagement and integration within hospital-wide and system-wide programs, committees, and initiatives.Cultivates strong relationships between the Hospital, affiliates, and the community, supporting volume growth through efficient, patient-centered, physician-friendly programs and service lines.Participates in committees, task forces, and external professional groups as designated by the President.Stays current on regulations and standards affecting responsibilities through ongoing professional development, ensuring compliance with new requirements. (CMS, TJC, DPH).Attends seminars, workshops, and maintains external affiliations to stay informed on emerging trends in healthcare quality, regulatory affairs, organizational behavior, and leadership.Upholds all responsibilities in accordance with relevant laws, regulations, department policies, hospital standards, and the Hospital’s Code of ConductRequired Qualifications:MA License; Medical Doctorate and ABM Board Certification required.Minimum of 10 years of clinical practice with at least 5 years in senior medical leadership roles within an integrated healthcare system.Experience managing high performing quality teams, regulatory requirements, required.Master’s Degree in Business, Public Health or Health Administration strongly preferred.Demonstrated fiscal management skills in planning, budgeting, and monitoring/controlling budgetary resources.Recent/current clinical practice experience strongly preferred.Experience developing clinical affiliations (medical schools/residencies.)Competencies:Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families, and external customers.Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate a full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures, and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.Teamwork: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff, and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner.Business-savvy mindset with strong financial, strategic, and operational acumen.High emotional intelligence and ability to build trust across diverse physician models.Beth Israel Lahey Health, including all of its employing entities, are a purpose-driven, values-based organization that unites our workforce of people who provide exceptional health care to everyone we serve.
