Axon Moore are supporting a well-established education organisation in the appointment of an Interim Finance Director. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to provide strategic financial leadership, ensure robust financial management, and oversee key operational functions across the organisation.
The key roles and responsibilities for this person will include:
- Leading the strategic and day-to-day financial management of the organisation, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements
- Preparing annual budgets, long-term financial forecasts and monthly management accounts to support effective decision making
- Producing statutory accounts and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards, funding agreements and governance frameworks
- Providing financial advice and business partnering support to the Senior Leadership Team and Governors, including presenting at Finance & Risk Committee and Board meetings
- Leading and developing the Finance Team, ensuring effective financial controls, payroll oversight and efficient financial operations
- Managing procurement, contract management and value for money across key supplier relationships, including outsourced service contracts
- Leading the organisation's internal scrutiny programme, risk management processes and financial governance framework
The ideal candidate requirements for this role will include the following:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualified experience
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including statutory reporting, budgeting and financial planning
- Experience operating within a regulated environment, ideally within education, public sector or not-for-profit organisations
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to develop teams and influence senior stakeholders, Governors or Trustees
- Excellent communication and business partnering skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to a non-financial audience
