Locum Litigation Lawyer – Housing Disrepair.

  • Job Type: Temporary (12 weeks)
  • Location: Hybrid (2 days in the office, must include Thursdays)
  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week (Core hours with some flexibility)
  • Start Date: 1st September

My client is seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Litigation Lawyer to join their Legal Services team.

This role is crucial for managing a complex litigation caseload, particularly focusing on housing disrepair, and providing high-quality legal advice within a local authority setting.

Day-to-day of the role

  • Manage a varied caseload of civil and criminal litigation matters, with a focus on complex housing disrepair cases.
  • Represent the client in various courts including Magistrates', County, and High Courts.
  • Provide expert legal advice to Members, officers, and stakeholders.
  • Draft legal documents, notices, reports, and court documentation.
  • Support key service areas within housing and disrepair claims.
  • Instruct and liaise with Counsel and external professionals.
  • Support and develop junior team members, including trainees.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Litigation Team.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive (with rights of audience in England & Wales), or experienced Paralegal.
  • Extensive experience in housing-related disrepair claims.
  • Strong experience in litigation, ideally within housing and/or planning law.
  • Knowledge of court procedures across Magistrates', County, and High Courts.
  • Excellent legal drafting, analytical, and research skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex legislation.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Confident communicator able to engage with a range of stakeholders.
